Minuscule paper kite, easy to make. It flies in very lightr winds, but as any micro kite, becomes unstable as soon as wind increases. I am working on perfecting it. Increase the size of the rear holes : this pushes the center of gravity forward, which helps stabilizing the kite. |
Here is my latest : 17cm, (little over 6 inches) Nepalese paper, bamboo and chinese ink. Flight quality is acceptable, but don't forget to arc its back generously. Do not hezitate to thin that bamboo... it has a minuscule piece of paper to carry !

Fall 2001 / Winter 2002 : My first Appliqué... 300 metres of sewing thread and some working hours.... The second (same shape) is painted with special spinnaker paint. Much faster to realise and paint allows to use gradual shading, which appliqué can't. (until I invent the stripe technique five years from now... in the summer of 2006. Yes... I changed my mind since I wrote this article in 2001 : shading is now possible !) Finally, a Korean paper and Bamboo Totem |

recover my biplane kite whose string was cut last Sunday.

: je me suis permis de faire un réduit du harfang de Maxime
Roussel. Il vole à merveille par vent faible et moyen, même
turbulent. Pas encore testé par vent fort, mais je suis déjà
sidéré par la stabilité de son design, même
après une aussi forte réduction. (42cm d'envergure contre
17 de long) et tout ça... sans la moindre queue pour le stabiliser
! Que des éloges pour Maxime... Bravo !  |
Ce papillon également vole sans queue. Je ne sais pas encore quel est le secret, mais ça fait plaisir ! La couleur reste à travailler, mais sa dentition me plait bien...  |
Un cran plus loin... Ce modèle ne semble pas avoir de limite : 11 cm d'envergure et il vole encore très bien... je sais ce qu'il me reste à faire !  |

Plus ancien, celui-ci ne vole pas très bien. Je pense qu'il est trop tendu et donc trop "glissant". Je continue les essais et publie les photos du prochain modèle qui volera avec succès. |
Armature arrière : Deux très fins longerons préviennent la torsion de l'aile. Colle à papier entre le papier et l'armature, préalablement assemblée à la cyano. |
Pour l'arquer, un bout de bambou est attaché au fil par son centre. Il suffit ensuite de le passer dans la boucle de l'autre aile qui est attachée aux deux longerons.  |
